“Do women really care about this sort of thing?”
That’s a question I get asked often, and it’s a fair question.
Now, I could tell you about conversations I’ve had with my friends and other women, but I think to really answer this question, we should turn to the research…
And the research is clear that Yes, some women care.
As an example, in research published in 2021 it was reported that over half of women in the study thought that the volume of their husband’s semen was an expression of their own sexual attractiveness.
In other words, they felt that their attractiveness somehow directly influenced the amount of semen that was produced…
and they’re right.
This is because of something called the “Coolidge Effect”.
The Coolidge Effect
The Coolidge effect refers to a progressive decline in a man’s sexual interest in a woman as the man becomes progressively more sexually familiar with this woman - A fancy way of saying when a man gets ‘used to’ a woman.
When the Coolidge effect happens, semen volume goes down.
This isn’t just in humans either…
All across the animal kingdom the male animals adjust their semen volume based on the desirability of the female - The more the man finds the woman desirable, the more aroused he is, then the higher the intensity of orgasm and the larger the semen volume.
This tells us some women are definitely interested in semen volume simply as a marker of their own attractiveness and desirability, as volume does equate to how ‘excited’ or ‘into her’ a man feels.

A Bigger "O"
The Coolidge effect isn’t the only reason some women are interested in semen.
Research by Andrea Burri suggests that almost 1/4 of women studied said that they experienced a more intense orgasm when their partner ejaculated during vaginal intercourse, and there is reason to believe the the total volume of ejaculate plays a role in this phenomenon.
In another study published in 2021 it was found that a more intense orgasm and more satisfaction was reported by 58.4% of women if husbands ejaculated intravaginally without a condom.
It has even been suggested that the effects of semen exposure may extend to the neurological system to affect female mood and behavior.
So for some women, a higher semen volume means better, stronger orgasms.
So the answer to the question “Do women really care about this sort of thing?” is Yes some (but not all) women do notice a man’s volume, and yes some (but not all), women enjoy or like a high semen volume.
In truth, it’s a personal preference, like how some men like big breasts while others prefer smaller. However, if I had to guess, I’d say that semen volume will become a much more openly discussed part of sexuality as it becomes less and less taboo.
